Romantic Wallpaper Biography

The words romance and romantic have several different meanings. The most usual meaning nowadays has something to do with love, when two people are attracted to one another. There are three older meanings which are all still used today.

The word "romance" comes from the word "Romana", meaning that it has to do with Ancient Rome.
The language of the Romans were Latin. Many other European languages developed from Latin. These languages are called the "Romance languages". Romance languages include Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian. English language has many Romance words, particularly from the French language.

A "romance" is something that stirs the imagination and makes people think exciting thoughts.
The word "romance" is often used for a work of literature, usually a story or a long poem, that is about people acting in a way that is noble and full of courage. The story might be about love, but it might be more about action. This type of "romance" goes back to the Middle Ages. The story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a romance from the 1300s. The Lord of the Rings is a romance from the 20th century.
The word "romantic" can be used for all sorts of things that stir up loving, noble or courageous thoughts.

From the second use of the word "romantic" there has developed a style of art known as "Romanticism". There is a style of painting known as "Romantic painting", a style of music known as "Romantic music" and a style of poetry known as "Romantic poetry".
"Romanticism" is a style of art that started in France in the late 1700s. The art of the French court deliberately copied the styles of ancient Greece and Rome, and was called "Classical art". Romantic paintings were quite different. They showed the bravery of ordinary people, and the heroes that they followed like Napoleon. In other countries, such as England, Scotland and Germany, Romantic paintings were used to show the landscape, as well as history paintings and the lives of ordinary people.
The most famous "Romantic poets" in the English language were William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats. They wrote many descriptions of the landscape and many romantic story-poems.
Romantic music is music that stirs up the imagination. Among the famous romantic composers of the 19th century (1800s) are Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn and Chopin.

A "romance" is when two people share their feelings of love for each other: "Tim and Beth had a secret romance".
The word "romantic" is used as an adjective to describe loving feelings, or the sort of situation in which people would enjoy these feelings: "They had a romantic dinner by candle-light." "Tim sent a romantic letter on their anniversary."
A "romance" is the name of a work of literature that is about love. It might be a novel like Pride and Prejudice or a play like Romeo and Juliet. A movie that is about love like Twilight is also called a "romance".
